Youthnet ~ Friday Nights
Supporting the youth of our area
Youthnet was created with the aim of growing young people while also giving them a safe environment to hang out and enjoy one another’s company.
Friday nights are generally open evenings where local youth from aged 12-18 can come. In most parts it’s an informal evening with a range of activities available for the youth to be involved in as they desire. The Youthnet team is on hand to supervise and build supportive relationships with the youth.
The youth leadership team consists of members of Kings church who have a desire to work with local youth. The leaders range in age and background but all have a passion to work with local youth, and help them develop to all they can be. The team includes student leaders, who are mentored alongside the core leadership team, and help support both practically and with development of the youth work
Youthnet runs most Fridays, from 7.30-10pm, entrance is 50p per evening. Once every 4-6 weeks youthnet closes to allow the youth team to meet, and look at development of the work to make an even better environment for our youth to be.
To ensure safety of our members, all members must complete consent forms to attend youth events, under 18s must be signed by parents or guardians.
Activities at youthnet
We are very blessed at the kings Centre to have indoor sports facilities, we usually have badminton and football set up in the main hall, pool and table tennis the foyer.
We have a café area open from 7.30-9.30pm with space to sit and chill out with friends, listen to music or have a dance. We have a range of games, from jenga to Nitendo Wi and PS2. Monthly we have DJ come along for DJ for the evening and also teach anyone who wants to learn!
In 2009 we are hoping to develop a themed area, which will change from week to week, for example, a girls room, arts and craft area, dance workshop, music workshop etc. Watch out for updates on these developments in the next month.
Codes of conduct and rules
The youthnet team, love having time to hangout with the youth, and for activities to run smoothly, in order for this to happen effectively, we do have some rules that we expect youth to adhere to…
~ Respect leadership at all times
~ Respect peers (other youthnet members) at all times
~ Respect property at all times, not to deliberately damage equipment
~ No swearing
~ No fighting
~ Sign in when entering the building, and sign out when leaving
We do not like to punish or ban any youth, however in certain circumstances this is unavoidable, and when appropriate parents and guardians will be contacted and Suitable action will be decided.
