I Was Blown Away

 jans testimony

" I had a Catholic upbringing although neither my parents nor myself were practising Catholics. I was a bit of a football hooligan until I met Susan, now my wife, she was C of E we were still very young but in love, so we decided to get married. So I gave  up 'Catholicism,' and nobody expected our marriage to last very long. (how wrong were they!!) Now for years we plodded on in an uneventful life until we had children, and we thought It would be a good idea to have them baptized.

What we didn't know was that we had to go thro' baptism classes, and attend 'church'! Well we did and were hounded by the 'God squad' who tried to convert us to Christ.

Then we had a chance to move out of the catchment area for the church, and thought we'd escaped."

" How wrong we were, they had invited us to go see a Billy Graham video at the local theatre. We said ok, (being as they had bought the tickets, or so we thought).  Susan went forward that night and I followed, not wanting to be left out, but for me it wasn't real. A few months later there was a meeting with speaker Colin Urquart, which sounded interesting so went along. It turned out he couldn't make it, so this other guy did it by the name of Bob Gordon.

Well he spoke of the Roman way at the time of Jesus, and about their crucifixions and how cruel they were. I thought it was just a great story, but when I realised how real the crucifixions were, and what they had done to Jesus, and why Jesus 'let ' them do it, ( for ME )  I WAS BLOWN AWAY !!      It was all for real, Jesus was real, he wasn't just in the bible He was mentioned in other 'history' books too, namely one by Josephus. Needless to say I made a heartfelt commitment to God that night, in 1985, and have never looked back."

" My God is a great God, He has been so good to us, and I have never been able to do anything to deserve it, it is all by the saving grace of Jesus, he makes us worthy. I played guitar and have done the clubs etc, but after this I played it for God. We 'progressed' our faith through about 5 churches, have seen all our children choose to be baptized, and the quality of life since has been all but 'uneventful'. In fact it has been busy, with friends, real friends, Christian friends, and varying social groups within church life, and have never grown tired of it, how can you when God is central in all you do?. I joined the worship group at the church's we went to, and have led worship at the last three church's we attended before Kings, the last of those for 5 years, and enjoyed every moment. I also had the opportunities to preach,  always an exciting prospect is that, it is great when God speaks to you through the preparation whether it be worship or preaching. He meets you where you are and elevates you to a higher place, I can’t imagine life without God."

"We are now at Kings in Great  Yarmouth and believe that God is going to do even greater things, here,  and in our lives, and still the friendships go on, with other Christians here, but most importantly with Jesus.  Praise Him"
