Men In Training

MIT

Purpose
To give support to the young men at Kings who have a desire to be trained and discipled. MIT provides them with a mentoring and seminar-based teaching program along with a practical platform. In doing this they are able to learn new skills, ready for service in both the church and the wider community. Designed as a follow-on from membership envisioning MIT will truly build strong foundations into their lives so that they are equipped to live out our vision and to see the Borough of Great Yarmouth and beyond impacted by their lives.
It is our desire to raise up a generation of men who will be strong in the Christian faith and be great men of God.

Who is this for?
Designed for the young men in our church (16-19ish) who are at a point where they are no longer boys, but not quite men. Where they still don’t quite know where they are headed in life but are ready for the adventure that God has planned for them to walk. Each member is invited to the group – this is not an open invitation to all, as discipleship is impossible to achieve in a larger informal setting. MIT delivers the opportunity for personal growth through the commitment of both disciple and discipler.

Who leads MIT?
MIT will be led by Nick Cowan under the banner and authority of Youthnet, the youthgroup of Kingschurch. Nick is part of  a team that is overseen by the Leadership Team.

Mentoring
MIT is a teaching/discipleship/mentoring group. Mentoring young people demands a lot of any one person or team. To effectively do so often requires a great deal of one-on-one time and covers a wide perspective of life and ministry. For this reason, mentors are currently being asked to volunteer time to engage with the young men and to input out of their own life experience. MIT aims to grow relationships through the generation divides offering the young men current thinking tempered with the wisdom and experience gained from the lives of older men of the church.

Service
John 13:1712When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. "Do you understand what I have done for you?" he asked them. 13"You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. 15I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.
Matt 20: 28 - 28just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many

There is nothing so vital in a Christian’s life as service. It indicates the person’s heart attitude – what they will put their time and effort into will usually demonstrate who or what they worship and love. Jesus came to serve mankind out of His love and commitment to His Father. He has modelled true manhood to us and called us to be like Him in all that we do. It is therefore fair to say that to be a man of God we must serve others as He did. Through our love, compassion, forgiveness and servantheartedness we will be better positioned to live out the great commission. Servanthood is a main theme of MIT, and we will make every effort to provide opportunities for the young men to serve.

Training
As part of the newfrontiers family of churches we have a passion and vision to train and equip future leaders who will be impacting the nations. MIT will look to support the young men through the stage of their life where they are beginning to sense God's call on their lives. Some may be called to be future pastors, elders, lead worshippers, etc. and to this end, there will be some times in which they can practice some of the skills necessary to develop into these roles. There will be times of worship, which will be backed up by those wishing to lead worship one day. There will be opportunities to preach, where they will be given feedback and guidance and these times will also encourage them to grow in any prophetic gifting that they might have.
