Leadership Team

The leadership of the church is made up of a team who are led by the Senior Leader Andy Moss. Andy is married to Helen and they have two children. He was involved in the original church planting from Lowestoft back in 1994 and was appointed to lead the church in 2004 as the church transitioned to the new building. His training has mostly been undertaken through the leadership training tracks provided by newfrontiers. He is fully employed by the church.

Some of his story

Andy was born in Gt Yarmouth in 1962. He was brought up in a family who had little knowledge of who Jesus was or what faith in Him really meant.

During his early teenage years he was to commit his life to Jesus as a result of hearing the gospel through the Crusader organisation. After walking away from God through his late teens/early twenties he was to encounter God again in his late twenties over three incredible evenings and this was to change the course of his life.

His passion

Andy remembers the difficulties that faced him as he entered into a personal relationship with Jesus and the effect this had on him and others as he totally changed his lifestyle and views on life. As a result he has a passion to effectively communicate the message about Jesus Christ in a way that makes Jesus irresistable and relevant. The Christian mindset and worldview if presented well is powerful. The problem that the church has today is partly down to us, we just haven't presented truth effectively. The world accepts that it's own value system is falling apart it just doesn't have a decent alternative to turn to. That's where we come in, it's called the great commision or is it really 'the great communication'. Perhaps it's time to look again at the life of Jesus and to learn how he connected so well with a whole range of people?

Andy is also passionate about the restoration of the local church so that people enjoy and grow in their relationship with God according to the Bible's design. This will mean that our worship is full of joy and freedom and not bound by religious traditions. He desires to see a church that plays a vibrant part in society believing that society can be transformed by the advancing Kingdom of God.

Whilst many people deny the need for membership to a local church, Andy would point them to the key scripture that says that 'they are called to be living members of a body'. Members working together are therefore in "member-ship" as an out working of that life together. If you are not in the body then you are not working it out as a body member and that goes against New Testament living.

He loves the Borough of Great Yarmouth and believes that God wants to upgrade it and not downgrade it. He encourages you to only speak well of the Borough and to play your part, whatever that part is in its regeneration. God has given us a great place to live.

God's way is through team..

We believe that leadership is about team and not about the sole efforts of one man ministry. We see that the role of leaders is varied but that the primary role is to provide vision and guidance to the church keeping it on track to its biblical convictions.

Andrew Chapman (Elder) and Valerie

Andrew was born in Leicester and his working life was spent in the building industry. He took early retirement in 2001 in order to oversee the building of the Kings Centre. Andrew is married to Valerie Anne, he has a passion for the local church and to reach those who the Bible considers in darkness, eternally lost without Christ. Andrew serves the church in an unpaid role.

The main governing leadership of the church is based upon the New Testament role of elders. The leaders are referred to as leaders (we don’t use the term elder or pastor so much when addressing each other). Andy or Andrew is just fine!

A matter of biblical conviction..

We believe that church should be governed by male leadership (Elders) who are God appointed and commissioned through apostolic involvement. Our conviction is that scripture is weighted more heavily to male leadership for the governing roles.

We recognise that other churches will have women leaders and we gladly work with those who have that conviction. We remain open to any further revelation that God may gives us on this subject. We are not a closed shop on this matter.

This does not make us male chauvinists

We believe that both men and women are equal in value before God but have different roles within life and ministry. This is our biblical worldview and we accept that it challenges the current views of this world. We hold to the Christian view that women are just as precious to God as men are.

Apostolic support

The leadership team is accountable to the regional apostolic newfrontiers team and receives support from this team.

Developing the Eldership team

There is also a wider leadership team that includes Don Pendergrast. Don is currently in the training process for potential eldership. That training includes involvement with Andy and Andrew at an Eldership level, leading his own areas of ministry within the life of the church and undertaking any further training that would help him.

Leadership of the various ministries and groups within church life

Leaders of the various ministries and groups are both male and female.

Leaders will have been recognised and commissioned into their ministry roles by the main leadership team.

A part to play (leadership)

As a church we value the role of leaders and look to be praying for them, showing our appreciation to them and following their examples.

Today's world knocks the 'leader' but in church life we value those who lead.

Please pray for your leaders!
