Vision and Purpose

Our story so far

Planted from Lowestoft (A church plant of LCC)

In 1994 35 people were sent out from Lowestoft Covenant Church now Lowestoft Community Church (LCC) to plant a church in Gorleston. We began with occasional meetings and our regular Sunday meetings started in January 1995. The church at that time was led by Brian Daplyn and his wife Chrissie and supported by Andrew and Valerie Chapman.

Our First Building

The main school hall at Cliff Park High was our first venue for worship services.  During the time at the school we also used a porta-cabin for some teaching/training sessions. All of the equipment we used was transported and set up every week by very willing volunteers.

On the move to Palmer Road

In April 1995 God gave us the building at Palmer Road. This was an old tin shack of a building with just two rooms. It was old and needed some work doing on it but what a blessing it was to have our own facilities! God is good. We moved into this after a period of refurbishment in October 1995. We added an outside porta-cabin to the small site to run our children’s activities.

our story 1

A massive step of faith

In 2001 we had launched ourselves more into community involvement. As part of this we felt God our story 2

stirring us to step out in faith and go for a new building. God spoke these words, ‘Just take one step at a time.’ These words were to become a great comfort to us as we moved into a building project with a minimal bank balance and a £650,000 to £800,000 task ahead of us.

How Did We Build The Kings Centre?

God had said, ‘Take a step at a time and for every step you take I will provide for you’ (and He did!)

  • Planning permission obtained in November 2003
  • Land purchase completed January 2004
  • Site clearance, Filling and preparation work started in February 2004 and was completed in March 2004
  • Setting out completed in March 2004
  • Contractors booked for a start on site with piling works to commence at the end of April 2004
  • On 7th March Kings Church held a Gift Day and raised £50,325 towards the costs. This is fantastic result and confirms that God is with us and that His hand is on this development
  • Piling work started on April 28th 2004 and was completed on May 7th
  • On average the piles were 12 meters in length to bear on solid ground
  • Ground Beams completed 10th June
  • Steel Frame erection completed 23rd June
  • 2nd July 2004 – Brickwork to foundations completed
  • 9th July 2004 - Prestressed beam and block ground floor completed
  • 23rd July 2004 – Safety netting fixed for roofers
  • 30th July 2004- Roof completed
  • August 2004 – Vertical cladding panels being fitted
  • 9th August 2004 – Internal blockwork commences
  • September 2004 – External Cladding completed

Our aim was to have the building up, watertight and secure by September 2004

We achieved it!

The wider Newfrontiers family

our story 3

Our story has always involved us being a part of the wider newfrontiers family of churches. We are joined together by vision and values and are on a mission together. Our vision is to extend the kingdom of God on earth through the growing and planting of local churches in the nations.
