Basis of Faith (Our Core / absolute beliefs)
We believe
-
Bible: We believe that the Scriptures of the Old Testament and New Testament in their original writing are fully inspired by God and accept them as the supreme and final authority for faith and life.
-
Trinity: We believe in the sovereignty of one God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
-
His World Rule: The love, grace and sovereignty of God in creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming and judging the world.
-
The dignity and sin of all people: Made male and female in God’s image to love, be holy and care for creation, yet corrupted by sin, which incurs divine wrath and judgement.
-
Deity of Christ: We believe that Jesus Christ, as begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary is both truly divine and truly human, yet without sin.
-
Cross: We believe that on the cross Jesus Christ became sin for us, was judged by God and died in our place.
-
Resurrection: We believe in the bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, His ascension into Heaven, and His present ministry as our High Priest and advocate with the Father.
-
Conversion: We believe that all who are justified by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God. We believe other religions and ideologies are not alternative paths to God, and that human spirituality, if unredeemed by Christ, does not lead to God but to judgement and damnation.
-
Holy Spirit: We believe in the ministry and gifts of the Spirit. He leads us to repentance, unites us with Christ through new birth, empowers our discipleship and enables our witness. We believe in the importance of each believer being filled with the Holy Spirit by which believers are empowered and equipped for service.
-
Heaven and HeII: We believe in the resurrection of the just and the unjust, the eternal blessedness of the redeemed, and the eternal damnation of those who have rejected God's offer of salvation.
-
Church: We believe that the local church should be the expression of the one true and universal Church and therefore that the new birth and personal confession of faith in Christ are essentials of Church membership. The Church is given life by the Spirit and endowed with the Spirit’s gifts to worship God and proclaim the gospel, promoting justice and love.
-
Second Coming: We believe in the personal and visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ in power and glory to fulfill the purposes of God who will raise all people to judgement, bring eternal life to the redeemed and eternal condemnation to the lost, and establish a new heaven and a new earth.
-
Communion: We believe that the Lord's Supper is the partaking of the emblems, which symbolise the broken body and shed blood of Christ, in remembrance of His sacrificial death until He comes. We encourage the taking of it in our Primary Groups and from time to time we take it in the Sunday meetings.
-
Water Baptism: We believe that in accordance with the command and example of Christ, water baptism should follow repentance, and is the external sign of an internal work of salvation. While recognising the right of other churches to practice infant baptism, we understand believers' baptism to be what the scriptures teach. It is a requirement of church membership to be baptised (if you have not already been) as a believer.
What if my parents are not happy about me getting baptised? Then it is usually best to leave the matter until you have the freedom to make these decisions for yourself. Let's chat about it.
What if I was baptised as a baby? The bible actually teaches that water baptism should follow repentance, not precede it (Acts 2:38 & Mark 16:16). Furthermore, infant baptism is unhelpful because people then assume that they are automatically saved! So, if you were baptised as a child, we suggest that you now get baptised as a believing adult.
Must I get baptised again if I join your church? No. Baptism was never intended as a sign of joining a local church.
What if my previous baptism was not meaningful for me? Lets talk about it, but it is probably best to get baptised 'properly'.
